So, how old is Vincent exactly?

A question that should be simple to answer really isn't at all. The official guidebook states that Vincent is 27 years old, but when we meet him in the game, he hints otherwise. Once we progress in the game and we find out about Gast, Hojo, Jenova, and the flashback, we start to do the math. If Vincent was put to sleep by Hojo 23 years ago, then that would make Vincent 50.

Technically, Vincent really, truly is 50, but can we really consider him to be that old? This is where things get a little messy. Vincent still has the mind and body of a 27 year old, meaning that he was basically "frozen" in time. It is impossible to deny the technicality of 23 years time, but it is also hard to deny the fact that he has never lived during that time. Not a single part of his being changed whatsoever since the day he was put to sleep. I'm not sure what you would say in that type of situation. It's just like people who go into a coma when they're young, and wake up years later only to find that they're in the body of an adult. The only difference is that Vincent never aged, making his situation a little more difficult to determine. And now that we know from Advent Children details that he simply won't be aging anymore, would we have to completely ignore the fact that 23 years passed him by? I tend to think we would.

So what we have now is an official profile stating Valentine is 27, facts in the game that state he is older, the character himself who looks and acts like he's 27, and evidence from Advent Children that he has not aged since his awakening. What I concluded from that was that Vincent should be 50, but he remained stagnant during 23 years of his life and is really still 27. I suppose either age could work, depending on what you believe defines the aging process. Otherwise, I would just go with the official age, which is much less confusing.
